    Zainab Arif

Zainab Arif, LMSW is a licensed therapist who works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and major life transitions. Her work bridges deep clinical expertise with a brain and nervous system informed approach, helping clients understand not just what they are experiencing, but how their nervous system learned to respond the way it does.

Zainab specializes in working with individuals who feel stuck in patterns they cannot think their way out of. Clients often come to her feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, shut down, or exhausted from trying to “manage” symptoms that never fully resolve. Through therapy and brain based interventions, including neurofeedback, Zainab helps calm the nervous system, restore a sense of internal safety, and create the conditions for lasting change.

With advanced training at The Menninger Clinic and hospital based psychiatric settings, Zainab has worked with individuals facing acute, complex mental health challenges. She brings a steady, grounded presence to high intensity clinical work and integrates evidence based modalities such as DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and person centered therapy with neurofeedback and nervous system regulation strategies. This integrated approach allows clients to build insight while also retraining the brain patterns that drive emotional reactivity, anxiety, and trauma responses.

Zainab earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Houston and is deeply committed to culturally affirming care. She approaches each client with cultural humility, attunement, and respect, creating a therapeutic space where people feel seen, understood, and empowered to trust themselves again.

A Real Example of How Zainab Helps

A client comes in saying, “I know I’m safe, but my body doesn’t believe it.” They feel anxious all day, overthink every interaction, and become emotionally overwhelmed in relationships, even when nothing is objectively wrong.

Zainab helps the client identify how past experiences trained their nervous system to stay in a constant state of alert. Through therapy, the client gains language and insight for their patterns. Through neurofeedback and regulation focused work, their brain begins to learn a new baseline. Over time, the client notices they are less reactive, sleep improves, relationships feel less exhausting, and they trust their responses instead of questioning themselves constantly.
